THE STORY:

Compeer Rochester, Inc wrote -

Mental illness doesn't discriminate. It affects all people regardless of race, gender, and socioeconomic status. An estimated 1 in 5 Americans struggle with mental illness each year, yet, despite its prevalence, much negative stigma still surrounds mental health disorders and the people living with them.

By matching people in mental health recovery with compassionate volunteer mentors, Compeer Rochester, Inc. strives to dispel the stereotypes associated with mental illness and demonstrate the capability of those struggling with a diagnosis to lead productive, meaningful lives. Compeer is involved with several local groups and organizations that raise awareness to mental health conditions and promote collaborative efforts for community inclusion, affirming the dignity and self-worth of each person.

We cannot fight stigma alone. It takes a network of people coming together to show our communities the true face of mental illness without any sensationalism. These are the faces of our neighbors, family members, and friends. Please consider donating and telling your friends about Compeer Rochester, Inc. All donated funds support our outreach programs and help us better serve our volunteers, clients, and the Greater Rochester community. Thank you for being a stigma reducer!
