BENEFITING: THE SIRENS SOCIETY
The Filmanthropy Festival is a means to use, support and promote film as a way to help make the world a better place while, at the same time, also honoring the very medium in which those issues are presented.
Filmanthropy Festival is a canvas for instigating and inspiring change. Our objective is to showcase films that inspire, educate, raise awareness and motivate so that the audience may, through their eyes, open their minds and their hearts to creating a better world for all.
ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
Filmanthropy Festival, perhaps the first of its kind, through selected filmmakers, will not only highlight a variety of charities, but the charities supported by the two winning filmmakers and the Audience Award winner will split the event’s net proceeds.
Our festival tagline, OPEN YOUR EYES, embodies an evocative double meaning. It not only encourages patrons to literally open their eyes and watch the film, it solicits them to see; it also underscores the kinds of films in competition. Altogether, the films selected will raise awareness to forgotten or unknown issues, educate the audience, bring to light inspiring and need-to-know stories and serve to motivate the audience to open, through their eyes, their hearts and minds to help make the world a better place.
When applying, filmmakers will be asked to select a charity close to them for which they hope to raise funds and awareness. The two film categories are shorts and features, which can be narrative/scripted or documentaries. The winning filmmakers will not only receive a trophy and prizes, but in addition, the charities they support will split the event's net proceeds with each other and with the Audience Award Winner. All filmmakers and their charities are urged to setup information booths throughout the day as well as at the awards party. Films will be screened throughout the day, culminating into an evening award celebration.
Last year we were able to raise enough money to put in 9 fresh water wells in Peam Village , Cambodia. We also were able to donate money for bio diesel fuel support. That's just the monetary part we were able to give, the awareness the festival was able to generate on topics globally to very close to home inspired quite a few to get involved in ways that were more rewarding than they ever imagined.
