Works of Life is a non-profit organization whose core mission is to assist the less fortunate. We rely on the donations that we receive so that we can re-donate items back out.

Below, you will read the story of a disabled, homeless woman who has written to our organization asking for assistance:

"I am a 47 year old woman with severe rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, therefore, I have many doctor appointments. I am homeless and often stay at a family or friends house for short periods of time. Since I do not have a car, I must physically carry everything I own to get from one place to another, which is extremely difficult for me, since I have rheumatoid arthritis and COPD.

I have always been an independent person; I was a very strong girl when I was young. I trained horses, worked on race cars, and served in Desert Storm. In Germany, while working flight operations for the U.S. Army, they discovered the rheumatoid arthritis, and shortly thereafter, I learned what it meant to be disabled.

That was many years ago, and I have adapted to a lot of challenges, and the biggest challenge for me, is asking for help. I desperately try to support myself by paying my own way, but there is just no money left over at the end of the month to save up to buy a car.

Right now I have a bus pass that I use to get to appointments, and this often takes most of the day. I have to relocate all of my belongings from time to time by asking someone if they can load my stuff up and take it to their house, then I must pay them gas, and unfortunately, that is money that I don’t have.

Everything I own is in a shopping cart in a friends back yard. It is only summer for a few more months, and to be honest, I don't know what I'll do when the rain comes.

By receiving a car, this would allow me an opportunity to have some choice in where I am at, and I wouldn’t need to burden people so much with my needs. I would gain some independence, as well as transportation, and it would also give me a place to keep my shower bag and change of clothes."

You can feel the anguish come through her words as you read her story.

We are asking for the public's help to raise funds to help this woman who is down and out. Donations have considerably decreased in the past few years, and functional vehicles getting donated to our organization are few and far between.

Please help her by donating what you can.

Thank you!
