ACTION CENTER FOR EDUCATION & COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT INC's Fundraiser:

Finding a Home for Beverly Davis' Katrina Paintings

ACTION CENTER FOR EDUCATION & COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT INC's Photo

THE STORY:

Beverly Davis, a native of New Orleans, used her skills as an artist to document not only Katrina's physical destruction but more importantly the racial inequality and social injustice that followed. For example her works include a painting of the Danzinger bridge shooting, during which members of the New Orleans Police Department claimed the lives of two and wounded an additional four unarmed African Americans who had committed no criminal offense a mere six days after Hurricane Katrina struck. It is our sincere desire to find a home, such as a smaller business property, that can serve as a museum open to the public for all of her paintings for the next twelve months.
