BENEFITING: Elijahs Promise
When it comes to hunger, we know it's about more than a meal for the night or enough groceries for a week. It's about offering hope to people like Robert DeVito with the promise of something better after prison. Robert came to the Promise Culinary School with nothing more than a simple passion for food and turned it into a professional skill. Now he works at A Better World Cafe, where he can be found making his old childhood favorites and his signature sandwich of mozzarella and roasted peppers, affectionately known as "The Pudgy".
As the old adage goes, "Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime." No one knows this better than Leslie Nyambasora, a former Soup Kitchen patron who now teaches others to prepare affordable meals through the Let's Cook program.
Donating to Elijah's Promise doesn't just give someone a free or low-cost meal. It gives one the skills to be anything from a chef to a caterer to even a restaurant manager. It teaches the public about the food they eat, and it directs people to a future of their own.
