BENEFITING: American Red Cross
EVENT DATE: Nov 04, 2012
Friends and family,
This Sunday I will be running in the ING NYC Marathon - an event that I have been eager to participate in for the last 5years. Unfortunately, this year the tone of the marathon will be a little different than years past. The city of New York, as well as most of the Northeast is still coping with the devastating impact of Hurricane Sandy. Everyone has been touched by this event in some way or another - some have lost loved ones, many have lost homes and/or are displaced indefinitely and millions still are without electricity, heat, water and increasingly food. There are other trickle down effects that may not be as apparent to non-East Coasters but equally troubling - half the subway system is still down indefinitely, gasoline has become a scarce resource (in some places taking hours to fill up a tank) and traffic restrictions have been placed on entering NYC. And the stories go on and on... As you can imagine, this has placed a lot of stress on the already bustling streets of NYC.
But the good news is that I am confident we will recover, as we always do. So, given the current situation I have decided to take this opportunity to run the marathon with a little more purpose than usual - to help support the Hurricane Sandy effort. I have set a target of raising at least $1,000 within the next week for the American Red Cross. I am inviting everyone to donate $26 to represent a $1 for every mile I will run on Sunday (If you would like to donate more, please feel free to). You can either donate directly to my cause through the crowdwise website OR you can write out the check to me and I can donate on your behalf through my work - the benefit of writing me the check is that my company will match every dollar that I contribute so your donation will count as twice (if this is confusing, just email me and we can figure it out firstname.lastname@example.org).
Thank you for all your support. There are many who will benefit this.
PS For those of you who know me, I run by the motto "FINISH STRONG". This time around I'm going to modify it a bit to be "Finish Strong for Sandy"!!
