BENEFITING: International OCD Foundation
EVENT DATE: Jun 04, 2016
My name is Fiona and in 2011 I was diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. The past 5 years have been a long and winding path to understanding the disorder and myself. Thanks to my supportive family and friends, my loving husband, and my yoga practice I have learned that I am not the disorder. It is something that I struggle with every day. It can be mean and controlling- but I am NOT my OCD. I believe that education and awareness are key to creating a more open and supportive environment for people who suffer from mental illness. I am pursuing my degree in psychology to further my understanding of OCD and other mental illnesses. I hope to find ways to help others like me find joy in their lives, despite their darkness that lurks underneath. If you have a moment, please take a look at the articles below about OCD. I am currently reading The Man Who Couldn't Stop by David Adam. It is a wonderful read for anyone who wants a deeper look into what it can be like to live with OCD.
On Saturday June 4th I will be walking with my husband Jason and our friend Julia in Oakland, California to support the International OCD Foundation's 1 Million Steps 4 OCD Walk! Please support our fundraiser by donating what you can and sharing our fundraising page. If you are in the NorCal area- walk with us! Thank you for your support and feel free to reach out with any questions or ideas! #1Million4OCD
