Firewheel Designs is a social enterprise dedicated to creating career opportunities for women affected by domestic violence and poverty in Guatemala. By paying women fair rates to create high quality, handmade jewelry and textiles, Firewheel Designs helps women throughout Guatemala become financially independent, rise out of poverty and leave violent homes so they may live their lives according to their own terms.
For this specific fundraiser, we want to raise money to form a partnership that will support a group of women weavers in Lake Atitlan, who are in desperate need of work. For this project, we will design a line of scarves that the women will be paid fair rates to weave, providing them with much needed income. Each scarf is woven using ancient techniques that date back thousands of years in Guatemala. The women use purely organic cotton, silk, and dyes. The scarves produced by the women we work with are of the utmost quality, guaranteed to last for decades. Firewheel Designs plans to design and order 50 scarves to launch this initiative.
Every dollar you donate will go directly to the women who weave the scarves, creating income for these women and their children. Furthermore, when we sell the scarves, any revenue we make will be reinvested into the Firewheel Designs mission. This will allow us to create career opportunities for 15 more women who are escaping domestic violence, poverty, or both in Guatemala.
