Healthy Lifestyle Kits for Sunnyvale Community Services
Organized by: Marielle MacDonell
I am a Sunnyvale, CA high school student whom is preforming a community service project. Equal access to health education and healthy food is really important to me, so I've chosen to partner with a local nonprofit called Sunnyvale Community Services to help them advocate for their diabetes program. Sunnyvale Community Services is a nonprofit emergency assistance agency that works to prevent homelessness and hunger in Sunnyvale. Part of preventing hunger is promoting healthy living for all of their low-income clients, many of whom are at high risk of diabetes. In partnership with El Camino Hospital, SCS provides free diabetes testing, diabetes-friendly food, and bilingual diabetes education to clients who enroll in their program (http://sunnyvalecommunityservices.org/).
For this project, I am raising money with the end goal of helping SCS enroll more low-income clients, particularly families, in their diabetes program. I will be using the money to provide first aid kits with family and kid-friendly information on disease management and living a healthy lifestyle on a budget. The kits will include essentials like band-aids, cleansing wipes, antibiotic ointment, ice packs, and healthy snacks. I will be creating 300 units to distribute and would love your help raising the money I need to buy supplies and put together the healthy lifestyle kits!
