Since the early 80's (Think feathered bangs and painter pants)I have been working in the movement to end gender violence. Some of my friends and family members have suffered at the hands of an abusive partner and a few have even been killed. I heartily support an organization called First Step www.firststep-mi.org which provides free services such as shelter, counseling, legal help etc.. to survivors in Wayne County Michigan (Metro Detroit Area). I have seen the hope and life-changing support this agency has given to thousands of people each year. This month (September 2014), I am challenging all Men to donate to First Step's 100 Men Campaign. Male voices can and should play a crucial role in the movement to end gender violence. This is your chance to make your voice heard. Funds raised will be used to provide free services for survivors and prevention, education and outreach to help educate our young people about this important issue. With your permission, I will publish your name on First Step's website to let everyone know you contributed and that you have taken a public stand to stop violence against women and children.
