To impact the lives of young people by providing learning facilities and educational programs that promote character development and life-enhancing values through the game of golf.
The First Tee South Puget Sound provides young people of all backgrounds an opportunity to develop life-enhancing values through the game of golf to more than 400 kids annually. The program transforms the golf course into a classroom, teaching kids how to be better people through a game they love. We also serve more than 6,000 students through programming held in 14 public school students in Tacoma. All of the lessons instill in kids The First Tee Nine Core Values: Honesty, Integrity, Sportsmanship, Respect, Confidence, Responsibility, Perseverance, Courtesy, and Judgment.
No child is ever turned away because of ability to pay. It costs $500 to provide year-round programming and mentoring to a child. In 2012 more than 79% of the kids served from partners like The Rescue Mission, Phoenix Housing, children of the military and Boys & Girls Clubs were on scholarships to participate.
