BENEFITING: Stephen Siller Tunnel To Towers Foundation
EVENT: New York City 2016
EVENT DATE: Sep 25, 2016
I think most everyone has had 9/11 affect them in some way. Having just moved from NY in March 2001 after living there my entire life, it was difficult 'not being home' with my fellow NYers while watching it on TV from South Carolina. The sacrifices that everyday people who just went to work, or got on a plane for a trip made that day were mind numbing. Also seeing the first responders who's job it is to get people out, keep going back into the WTC to help others is the true definition of making the ultimate sacrifice. So Sunday 9/25 I am running in the 'Tunnel 2 The Towers' race/walk in NYC. It starts in Brooklyn and goes thru the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel to the WTC site. It is the same run countless firefighters did on 9/11 in full gear. Details about the charity: The Siller Family started the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation to honor the memory of their brother, Stephen, a New York City firefighter (FDNY) who lost his life on September 11, 2001 after strapping on his gear and running through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the Twin Towers. The goal of the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation is to continue Stephen’s legacy by supporting our nation’s first responders and service members. Building for America’s Bravest, a program of the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, constructs specially adapted smart homes for our most catastrophically injured service members.
