The Five Rivers Voyage will begin on August 1, 2017, in Lac Vieux Desert, MI on the headwaters of the Wisconsin River. After 400 miles, the Wisconsin River joins the Mississippi River, and the route will continue south for another 400 miles until it reaches the confluence with the Illinois River just north of St. Louis, Missouri.
To get from there to Chicago requires paddling 376 miles upstream on the Illinois River plus a section of the Des Plaines River, the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal, and finally the Chicago River. The voyage will end on September 29 in Chicago, IL on Lake Michigan in time for WEFTEC 2017.
A satellite communicator will be carried and supporters can follow the progress of the voyage on an online map. Facebook updates will also be posted to share the high (and occasional low) points of the trip. The Five Rivers Voyage will cover 1,176 river miles.
The goal is to raise $10.00 per mile for a total of $11,760. Sponsorship of the voyage is an opportunity for organizations and individuals to support the mission of Water For People. The voyage is self-funded by the on-the-water team of Gary and Linda De Kock, so all sponsorship funds go directly to benefit Water For People.
