Five Acres provides homes for more than 600 cats and dogs each year. The majority of these animals come from private citizens who are unable to keep their pets for one reason or another. We love and care for them while we await families to offer them a forever home. When space allows, we travel to other shelters to retrieve animals that are scheduled for euthanasia, thereby giving animals a second chance at life.
Our mission is to end pet homelessness, promote responsible pet ownership, and advocate for animal welfare. We believe we can do this by promoting the adoption of unwanted animals, fostering the development of humane attitudes through education, encouraging responsible pet ownership, and working for the advancement and enforcement of responsible and humane laws to protect the rights of animals and thereby preventing animal abuse and neglect.
