Fix The 6-10 Coalition is an all-volunteer organization – these funds will be used when needed to support actions that support the best design for 6-10.
The 6-10 Connector is in dire need of replacement, but it's more than just a broken highway. It's an opportunity to fix a long broken approach to highway design, to reduce long-term roadway maintenance costs, to support economic development and better traffic flow, and to improve quality of life and the health of the communities surrounding it including Federal Hill, West End and Olneyville.
It is for all these reasons and more that the Fix The 6-10 Coalition is advocating for Governor Gina Raimondo and RI Department of Transportation to STOP the fast-tracking of the 6-10 Connector, and to instead shore up the highway's most vulnerable bridges while pursuing the best design possible.
This best design could incorporate citizen input from the City of Providence, our neighborhoods and other affected communities, and could hold the most benefits for Rhode Island economically, socially and environmentally. Rhode Island has suffered for too long from short-sightedness and reactiveness. We have before us an opportunity to be innovative, to do the right thing by the communities adjacent to 6-10, and to take advantage of the enormous potential in an infrastructure project as large and important as rebuilding the 6-10 Connector.
The Action Fund will allow us to work with attorneys, engineers, communications experts and others as we seek to mount the strongest campaign possible.
