HOWARD COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY INC wrote -
Some people love museums and some are entranced by old architecture. Some people know dates and names, and some follow the larger ebb and flow of life on Earth. Others are drawn to the stories of our ancestor's lives. The historical society exists to preserve our heritage for all of those people, serving Howard County as the custodian of our history. The Seiberling Mansion, symbolic of a major turning point in local history, is a big part of our responsibility – and one of the big reasons we ask for your financial help.
The historical society is about to enter its second hundred years. In a sense, we’re no longer just preservers and recorders of history, but have become a part of that history. It would be far too easy to become a footnote, buried in a file cabinet, which is why our long-range plans focus on the future and the theme of our 2015 funding campaign is “The Next Hundred Years.”
To meet the goals of our mission, we need adequate resources to maintain the Seiberling Mansion and to exhibit and preserve some 30,000 objects and 15,000 photographs. They represent the stories of the people and culture that give us strength and resilience. They are part of the shared heritage that binds us together – and helps us pass our culture and values on to succeeding generations. As the custodian of our history, the historical society holds its artifacts, archives and lessons in trust for the benefit of all. Your financial support makes that possible.
The people who built Howard County left us a great legacy, symbolized by the Seiberling Mansion and preserved, in part, in the collections of the historical society. Please join us in making a financial contribution to support the society’s work.
