"Beyond the Horizon" volunteers (http://beyondthehorizon.org) have been engaged with Oloosinon primary school in Kenya since 2013. Our trips in February and Sept. 2014, were to build a cafeteria and kitchen and we also set up a pilot Flash Lab: a computer lab solution using recycled equipment, running everything on a flash drive. This has proven to be a repeatable and sustainable solution with low set up and maintenance cost.
This was the first time most of the students and lots of teachers were able to see and touch a key board! The school principal told us emotionally, "Today is the day that computer entered our Masai children's vocabulary!" After seeing first hand how eagerly the students wanted to learn, we have worked with the school board and decided to build a Flash Lab for the school in 2015!
The complete lab will be a 25x25 free standing building, wired for computer lab use. All your contributions will go to the construction of the building, including labor and materials. A group of volunteers will be traveling to the school site to help with the construction in March and Sept, 2015 all at our own cost.
Like previous projects of ours, we are committed to provide you with updates on key milestones until the completion. Like us on Facebook to follow the real time update https://www.facebook.com/pages/Come-with-me-to-Africa/531617160250013
