Well, husband took the plates back to the DMV yesterday.  We officially have no vehicle on the road. The van can't be put back on the road, See More

THE STORY:

UPDATE 11/14 - We have to take this thing off the road. It's too rusted out underneath to pass inspection. Everything from the subframe to the tie rods and motor mounts are beyond repair. The mechanic said it isn't worth putting any more money into.

In February our family purchased a van that  has been falling apart since we brought it home. As it stands, the vehicle won't be able to pass inspection at the end of December according to a mechanic that put a tire on for us a few months ago.

The exhaust system is shot, the wiring inside is going (the dash lights go on and off), and we don't know what is going on with the wipers- sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.  It's extremely loud while driving  and to replace the subframe  alone will cost $1500.

A little background on us- we live in a rural area where we absolutely need transportation, no bus route passes by our home nor is within walking distance. We are both disabled and have 5 children.

My husband just learned that he may have Multiple Sclerosis and an MRI showed lesions on his brain. He has trouble walking for long, stumbles, has neuropathy in hands and feet, the numbness and weakness in his hands cause him to drop things all the time.

Me- I have agressive, progressive arthritis and a rheumatic/autoimmune disorder along with Raynaud's disease. I am currently not in a flare-up of the autoimmune disease and working hard to get us through this difficult situation.

14 year old- autism with high anxiety and just learned today she may have ADD which does run in the maternal side of the family (yep, mom has it).

11 year old- Chronic stomach irritation which is just now started on testing. (She tested negative for celiac disease!)

9 year old - Allergic asthma. Uses a nebulizer at home for asthma attacks.

7 No known health issues (thank goodness).

5 year old- Latex allergy, severe enough for epipen jr.

We've done everything we can to cut costs and save money.People who know us personally and have been in our home know that. Even with cutting costs on everything that isn't essential to basic needs, we cannot afford to buy another van or repair this on on our own.

Thank you for reading and thanks for sharing.
