BENEFITING: FAMILY LEARNING INSTITUTE
EVENT DATE: May 03, 2013
Hello friends. Thank you again for your support of last fall's Light the Night Walk for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. If you are in a position to give again, it is that time of year for the Bee on Board for Literacy spelling bee, the major annual fundraising event of The Family Learning Institute, a community nonprofit dedicated to eliminating the achievement gap in Washtenaw County, Michigan, through free, out-of-school-time, one-on-one tutoring and mentoring in reading, writing, math, and social-emotional development. It's also where I happen to work.
The line-up for the Team Emma spelling team this year will be: Robin Gleason (Emma & Hannah's 4th grade teacher), Gretchen Hahn (Emma & Hannah's 7th grade science teacher), and, for the first time, Donna Ramsey (Emma's 2nd grade teacher). Last year's team made it to the final rounds, and we are rooting for this year's team to go all the way!!
Again, if your personal and economic situation allows you to give this year, we would love it and really appreciate it. FLI is doing good work, each year helping over 120 elementary school kids from low income households catch up in reading, writing, and math and build the self-confidence they need to succeed in school and in life. To learn more, please feel free to visit www.familylearninginstitute.org.
If you're in town and would like to attend the Bee, tickets are $35 and may be purchased through our website. The Bee, held at the Morris Lawrence Building of Washtenaw Community College, starts at 7:00 pm, but doors open at 6:30. There will be drinks, hors d'ouevres, music by the Community High Jazz Band, and our emcee this year is local theatre luminary Malcolm Tulip. Thank you for your years of support of our nonprofit causes in Emma's honor, and we hope we see you at the Bee!
