Flight Home To Attend Dad's Funeral and Family Contribution

EVENT DATE Oct 28, 2016
I am teaching English Conversation and leading an international ministry in South Korea. One of my friends/parishioners received the dreaded news that we all fear while living abroad: his father passed away unexpectedly. When he first told me about it, he said he wasn't going to the funeral because it would cost too much to travel and that he couldn't afford the family contribution. Then when I called him later that day he said he was thinking about going. So we took an offering at our 5:00 worship service for his cause. But that was only a drop in the bucket. I thought, "Well, it's better than nothing." Then the idea came to me that if 200 people gave $10 then he would have enough for his plane ticket and a little contribution. And if 250 people gave $10 then he would have enough to pay for the plane ticket and contributing to his family for the memorial of his father. His family lives in Ghana and he hasn't seen his family since he came to Korea four years ago. I couldn't believe, and I still can't, the idea that he could not go be with his family during such a tremendous loss. And I believe there are enough people out there that if more than 250 people give, they could all give less than $10 and he could still be with his family. So that's why I started this fundraiser. If you're like me, and you've always wondered where to start giving, let this be your first chance to help one person. I dread getting that phone call that a beloved family member has passed away and can only imagine how hard this must be. I'm not mentioning his name for privacy reasons. Please, help a dear friend be with his family as they grieve the loss of his dad.
