Imagine you are going into your second year of high school and you’ve already failed two classes. Things at home have been difficult and just getting to school has been a challenge. Your chances of graduating from high school are getting dimmer and dimmer, and you know that a high school diploma is key to a successful future. What would you do?
SKILLZ Summer School is the answer! This is a free, five-week program offered by Flintridge, Day One, Lake Avenue Community Foundation and dozens of community partners. It focuses on youth who are at-risk for dropping out of school and/or students who are gang-impacted in the Northwest Pasadena and West Altadena area. Students entering as freshman or sophomores with multiple F grades are given a supportive environment, high expectations and the opportunity to earn both elective and academic credits. By completing a mix of life skills workshops and academic classes, each participating student can earn up to 10 school credits.
Flintridge Center looks to raise $15,000 to offer the academic component to 100 freshmen and sophomores in our community. Won't you help give our students another chance?
Here’s what your donation will provide:
$250: Credentialed Academic Instruction per student
$100: Classroom supplies and teacher materials
$50: A backpack and school supplies for the coming school year
