Hello wonderful donors to the BWH Marathon Team,

It has been almost 2 weeks since the Boston Marathon. I wanted to take one last opportunity to say thank you for your very valuable support - and to give you a bit of an update.

The weather on Marathon Monday could not have been more appropriately matched to the training conditions all winter - 44'f, raining, head winds. Epic. An incredible day - the fans and support crew were undeterred by the conditions. The BWH support team did a terrific job of encouraging and optimizing the conditions before the race start. A great sense of solidarity.

For those who are wondering - my finishing time was 3:34. Last year was 3:58. I was shooting (aspirationally) for 3:15, qualifying for my age group... so, I have closed the gap by more than half. Perhaps next year we'll get it. (Yes,this marathon and this team is a habit-forming experience).

A couple days after the marathon, I flew to London for the launch of the Lancet Commission on Global Surgery. The report (entitled "Global Surgery 2030: evidence and solutions for achieving health, welfare and economic development") and all the efforts around it, represent a major step forward in the work to create access to safe, affordable and timely surgical and anesthesia care for all people. It is exciting and a privilege to be at an institution that supports such global work. If you are interested in perusing the Commission outputs, the following website has all the links.

Thank you again for supporting me and the Brigham and Women's Hospital.

Enjoy the Spring!

Hi,

After a week of recovery and reflection on my marathon last week. I wanted to send my sincerest thanks to you. While the weather was poor, the experience was exceptional. It truly was filled with highs and lows, I was elated to finish and yet saddened by the thoughts that I still can't understand what happened to Mike. Additionally while I was so happy to see Mike's wife Terri at the course supporting us, that was mixed with the sadness of the thought that just a few years prior she was cheering on Mike. As a team we collectively raised almost $90,000 this is a significant sum and I know it will be put to good use. Furthermore, the outpouring of support means the world to me and I know it does to Terri as well.

From a personal side, the last three months have been incredibly tough but the marathon gave me something to focus on and the support from you all has truly helped me wrap my thoughts around this tragedy and how I was coping with it.

Thanks again!

Gratefully,

Charles

A quick warm enthusiastic thank you!! ...to all 85 of my wonderful supporters. We are on the bus to Hopkinton, to get this race going. It is cold and raining in Boston – how incredibly appropriate. Thank you to all of you for making this day a reality for me, and for your support to Brigham and Women's Hospital and all the life.giving.breakthroughs that it provides.

All the best,

Hi,

Well, time has flown by and marathon Monday is only 3 days away. I think I am ready, at a minimum, I am relatively injury free which is probably most important. I hope to just finish but think, I should do so in around 4 hrs. Feel free to track my progress on baa.org, my race number is 28934. Thanks again.

Flor!

Tom and Iram,

Gracias! This is so generous! And amazing, once again you are one of the first people to support me this year. ;-) Training this winter has been a bit challenging (I've never run in 5' F before, or with 5 feet of snow piled up on either side of the road…). But it has been fun to think about representing a wide range of supporters in the effort.

… hard to imagine you miss Boston from your perch in Oakland this time of year. =) I hope you, Kevin, and the kids are doing well.

All the best,
Robert
