BENEFITING: GRASSROOT SOCCER
EVENT DATE: Nov 04, 2012
9 years ago I ran the Boston Marathon. It was my first marathon, and there is no record of me having run it, as I ran as a "bandit." The next day I wrote a recap of my experience partially so that I could share my thoughts and feelings with my friends and family and partially so I could reflect back upon on all of the details in the future that I may have forgotten otherwise. The last lines of this recap were, "Will I run another marathon? Probably. Will it ever compare to this one? Probably not."
Last year I ran the NYC Marathon. I was an official entrant, earning a number in exchange for raising money for an affiliated charity. The race took place 9 months and 19 days after giving birth to Mackenzie and Thomas. It also took place 2 weeks and 2 days after being diagnosed with pneumonia. Again I wrote a recap of my experience, with the same intentions as before, but this time with the extra desire to be able to share it with my children when they were old enough to understand. The last lines of this second recap were, "Will I run another marathon? Probably not. Will it ever compare to this one? Definitely not.”
I still don't believe anything could compare with my first NYC Marathon, especially under those circumstances, but it looks as though "probably not" is definitely not happening.
