BENEFITING: FLYING KITES
ORGANIZER: FLYING KITES
EVENT DATE: Nov 04, 2012
Whether a person runs 1 or 26.2 miles (1.6 or 42.2 km), the motivation to move comes from different grounds. My chronicle in running began nearly ten years ago when I wanted to satisfy a personal accomplishment of losing weight for vacation. During the nights where I would circle many times around a high school track, each step was part of an unpleasant but necessary task to achieve a goal. As photos constantly remind me, running can do physical wonders.
Years later, I moved to a place I now call home, New York City. My nights of running around a track turned into views of sunsets on the West Side Highway. Between working countless hours and spending time cultivating friendships, running became a sightseeing excursion of The City that Never Sleeps. Now, for the first time after I began running for personal motives, I am taking strides for more than my own well-being.
Some of us, who are fortunate, like myself, have had the comfort of loving parents, family and friends. This November, I will pace in NYC’s ING Marathon with Flying Kites, a non-profit, to break the cycle of poverty and despair of orphaned children in Kenya. My hope is that you will join in my journey. By donating to this cause, we can race together in achieving the goal of providing orphaned children with a nurturing home and the chance to begin their lives.
