EVENT DATE: Dec 01, 2013
Please be a part of a unique 84-year-old New England holiday tradition by helping keep the "Friends of Flying Santa" in the air.
We are embarking on a one-month fundraising campaign to purchase toys for young children of Coast Guard Active Duty members througout New England.
Continuing a tradition begun at the advent of flying, "Friends of Flying Santa", a non-profit group of volunteers, plan to deliver toys and holiday cheer to 1,000+ children from 58 Coast Guard units in New England this December. This Christmas tradition started 84-years-ago when floatplane pilot William Wincapaw began dropping gifts to the families of lighthouse keepers and crews of lifeboat stations at isolated locations along the coast of Maine. The program continues today as a gesture of appreciation to the dedicated Coast Guard crews and their families.
Now flying by helicopter, our route includes over 30 stops from Maine to New York and we need your contributions.
Generous benefactors have already donated money and time to obtain fuel, pilots and aircraft to deliver the presents but we still need to purchase toys. ALL money raised by this campaign goes directly to purchase gifts for the children. There are no paid staff or administrative fees.
Our goal is to raise $5,000 by 1 December. Please help us provide a special memory for these children of our active duty Coast Guard members and continue the maritime legacy of Flying Santa.
