THE STORY:

FOA rebuilds families and transforms lives!

FOA Families of Addicts is a nonprofit organization whose mission statement is “Embracing families, friends and individuals struggling with addiction in order to promote recovery, provide support and encourage advocacy.” FOA currently provides programming that includes weekly support meetings in four counties that welcome both loved ones and those seeking or in long-term recovery to come together for support, friendship and education. Several more counties are currently interested in how FOA can benefit the residents of their counties. In addition to weekly meetings, FOA participates in many community outreach activities and is a sought after and respected resource in the Miami Valley. We also have made progress in eliminating the stigma of addiction by holding three successful rallies and encouraging members of the community to be the face and voice for those still suffering as well as those having success, family and recovery alike. FOA has recently began a program of peer support and plans to continue growing and fighting for individuals and families affected by addiction.

129 people die in our country each day from a drug overdose and this does not include all the people who have overdosed and survived or the ones still struggling. They are sons, daughters, moms, dads, siblings and friends. At a time when our country is experiencing an opiate crisis, we wait for funding and answers on topics that include: immediate access to treatment, overdose protocol, continuum of care processes, harm reduction tactics, legislation improvements and preventions programs, FOA has taken this head on and is creating solutions for today and tomorrow. That is why FOA Families of Addicts is committed to embracing families, friends and individuals struggling with addiction in order to promote recovery, provide support and encourage advocacy.

FOA is unique because we provide support for the entire family and advocate for individuals to find their voice, which is key to eliminating the stigma associated with addiction.
