6,000 animals come through Oakland Animals Services annually, and many of them are sick or injured. We’re on a mission to raise $53,000 to provide digital x-ray services at OAS. This will reduce costs, and, more importantly, minimize the emotional and physical toll on sick and injured animals who have to be transported for x-rays now.
Friends of Oakland Animal Services (FOAS) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of shelter animals. FOAS was founded by Oakland Animal Services volunteers to support the Oakland municipal shelter’s efforts to better care for thousands of animals each year in the face of Oakland’s budgetary challenges. Our mission is to improve the care and housing of many animals, both in the shelter and in the greater Oakland community, as well as to provide for the needs of the shelter that the city cannot meet.
We are proud to assist Oakland’s only open-door shelter, where we have the opportunity to improve the lives of the greatest number of animals. With our volunteer-run operations, we devote 100% of contributions to projects that directly benefit the animals, with the most minimal of administrative expenses.
HOMES: Promoting adoption to find shelter animals loving homes, and educating the public in animal welfare and care.
HEALTH: Funding and outreach for medical care of sick, injured, and orphaned shelter animals.
HAPPINESS: Enhancing the quality of life for animals at the shelter through volunteer involvement and social projects.
