What the FOKO?
April 06, 2017
My story is simple: We run, we have fun, and while we run and have fun, we raise money for our kids' school, King Open. Its a public school and the teachers can use funds to get more creative with their classrooms and make direct impact in so many lives. We run 190 miles (team of 12), we have fun during the entire 190 mile stretch, and we aim to raise $19,000... $100 for each mile seems doable, especially when it involves running at 2 in the morning, in the rain or after no sleep for 24 hours!! Have a heart and share some moolah for this good cause.... I'll treat you to a beer next time we meet, or plain ol' H2O, if you don't!! :)

The King Open School in Cambridge, MA is just what you'd want to see in an urban public school. It's vibrant, diverse, messy, joyful, and very committed to Martin Luther King's ideals of peace and social justice. Like many other urban public schools, there is never enough funding to support the innovative, project-based learning that makes King Open stand apart. Last year, a group of King Open parents partnered with Friends of King Open (FOKO*) and launched FOKOruns, a unique fundraising opportunity designed to build community, and increase much-needed resources for our teachers so that they can continue to promote excellence and equity for all learners. The FOKOruns team will once again join the Ragnar Cape Relay in a 2-day relay running event, stretching out over 190 miles of Cape Cod, from Nantasket Beach all the way to Provincetown. On May 12-13, our team of 14 King Open parents will knock ourselves out, running day and night to reach the finish line. Won't you give us your support?
