BENEFITING: FOLDS OF HONOR FOUNDATION
ORGANIZER: Folds of Honor
EVENT DATE: Nov 20, 2016
Most of you know of my journey to better health. For those that do not, you can get a little overview here. My current motto is, "Do Epic Shit". For 2016, I've decided that includes attempting my first marathon. Last year was the year of half marathons. I think the longest run to date I have is about 14.5 miles. The marathon is a goal. The marathon is something I NEVER even saw as a possibility for myself. The marathon is 100% doable in my world.
Throughout this journey, I have come to realize the mass support I have in my awesome network of friends. The kind words of motivation, anonymous gifts of training sessions, friends running with me... overwhelming and absolutely amazing.
The past 6 mo this have been crazy. Waking up on Presidents Day in pain which eventually led to a neck surgery. The day of surgery I asked the doc again when I could start running and working out again. He said 6 weeks for the running (which coincidentally, falls on my birthday) but he's not giving a time table for lifting weights. I then asked if he'd let me at least walk the marathon. He said, "Oh, you'll be running the marathon and WILL finish. So, I really may end up walking the 2nd half, but I'm not giving up. I'm DOING epic shit... no matter how long it takes.
For those that would like to donate, the charity I have chosen to run for is the Folds of Honor Foundation.
Their mission states:
"Of the one million-plus dependents adversely affected by deployments, nearly nine out of 10 do not qualify for federal scholarship assistance. Since 2007, the Folds of Honor has carried forth this singular, noble mission. To close the gap, providing educational support to spouses and children of America's fallen and wounded soldiers."
Any amount will truly help and is greatly appreciated.
Thank you for continuing this journey with me! God Bless
