BENEFITING: Food 4 Farmers
We work with coffee farmers and their communities to overcome the "Thin Months" of seasonal hunger in Latin America. Millions of smallholder coffee farmers grow high quality coffee as their main source of income. Yet, year after year, low coffee prices and climate change prevent them from earning enough from their crop to put enough nutritious food on the table for their families all year long.
We're working to change that, by partnering with coffee cooperatives in Colombia, Guatemala, Mexico, and Nicaragua to help them build long-term solutions to hunger. We coach and connect them with the expertise they need to implement effective, sustainable strategies to grow healthy food and diversify their income, while making sure they have the right tools to manage their progress over time. So, when our work is done, the community continues to lead the fight for lasting food security.
Coffee co-ops and community-based organizations have the capacity to organize and educate hundreds or thousands of farmers to take action against hunger. And, just as our communities here in the U.S. benefit from strengthening local food systems, so do coffee-growing communities.
