BENEFITING: APPETITE FOR CHANGE, INC.
EVENT DATE: Jun 24, 2016
Every three years Wilder Research, a provider of resources for the homeless, conducts a one-night statewide survey of homeless people in Minnesota to better understand the prevalence, causes, circumstances, and effects of homelessness. The most recent study was conducted on October 22, 2015. On the night of the survey, 9,312 homeless adults, youth, and children were counted. Children represent 35% of the overall homeless population. It is never a child’s fault when those they rely on has difficulty providing. Both these children and their parents need assistance. Young people age 24 or younger are the most likely to be homeless. 46% of homeless adults age 18 or older are on a waiting list for housing based on a percentage of their income, with an average wait time of 11 months; another 14% were unable to get on a waiting list because it was closed. 30% of homeless adults are employed; 14% full-time. 57% of homeless adults report serious mental health issues. Everyone deserves their daily bread. Our goal is to reach as many families as possible. We’re accepting donations from Friday May 27 and will be giving away free parcels of food on Friday June 24 until Sunday June 26 at an address in New Hope, Minnesota that will later be specified. Donations will be accepted on our webpage at http://leadbythespirit.weebly.com/buy-a-food-parcel.html or any other page where you see this message. Give from the heart, and help those in need keep going.
