THE STORY:

Kirsten Rayhawk wrote -

Heya, everyone -- if you are reading this you are probably family and probably know already the basics of Portland Village School. This fundraising page is part of PVS annual "ask"* for people outside the immediate PVS households to help support our charter school.  ...|||||...  So -- cute little school, touchy-feely, all those good things ... absolutely a huge benefit for at least three of our four kids, and bunches of other people's kids ... also a leadership incubator for Portland (says the newly-enrolled MBA candidate who got in on her volunteer experience at PVS ;) ) ... but for me, I donate what I can (in my case, mostly time!) because I believe in the 99 year vision: I think this learning opportunity, fine tuned and always growing, should still be in operation for kids in Portland Public Schools 99 years from now.  ...|||||...  And it can't get by on just the 80% of per-student state funding a charter school gets. It won't even really do well when and if the latest legislation, bumping the share to 95%, passes -- because charters don't get support from PPS for things like buildings, and often don't get pass-throughs for grants or even for federal programs (Mayor Adams forced PPS to pass through the city arts tax funding at 100% of per-student, after PPS was politically ugly and tried to keep our portion entirely). At 80%, our public-school students, effectively, when all is said and done, are publicly funded at about 58% of what neighborhood public-school K-8 kids get.  ...|||||...  So PVS can always use your help, and I hope you will choose to give generously, either through a pledge here or, confidentially, directly to the school (Rebecca Castillo (Development Director), Portland Village School, 7654 N Delaware Ave, Portland, OR 97217).  ...|||||...  I am a big believer in "a little bit here and there," so I've set my fundraising "goal" pretty low ($100), and as always, no guilt if this doesn't make sense at this time, and props(!) if your life is going like gangbusters and a big donation makes sense ;)!  ...|||||...  For cute pictures of PVS, see ...|||||...  our lovely, volunteer-produced newsletter at http://www.portlandvillageschool.org/sites/g/files/g158661/f/201602/PVSWovenWinter2016_Web_FINAL.pdf ...|||||...  the official website (portlandvillageschool.org), or  ...|||||...  the parent association facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/PortlandVillageParentAssociation/)    ...|||||...  -- Kirsten :)  ...|||||...  * Technically, this "ask" is associated with a fun run, but neither David nor I can get Keegan to the event itself, so I am just straight-up asking you to consider donating to PVS out of the generosity of your hearts.  ...|||||...  * Also, this "annual" thing tends to shift shape every year, and might be in the fall next year -- that won't be because we are trying to hit y'all up twice, but the Fun Run -- if we do it again -- might work better in the fall, for the students.  ...|||||...  [end]
