For Transforming a Family and Farm
Organized by: Michelle Brown
Hey, all. Thank you for taking time out of your day to read my story. I pray that God will use my story to give someone encouragement. There is triumph through tragedy, even if you think the storm you are in will never end, for it will. Everything in life is temporary. Jeremiah 29:11 (NLT) says, "For I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope."
2009 started me and my family on a journey that has changed our lives forever. We have only survived because of prayer, our faith in Jesus, and very good friends! Romans 8:28 (NLT) says, "And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them."
I got married in 2004, in which we became a blended family with 3 children. By the end of 2008, we added 3 more children.
In 2009, my stepson made poor choices concerning sexual abuse which negatively impacted my family. After much intervention, with no avail, and a duration of 2 1/2 years, he went to live with family out of state for the safety of my other children. This situation put a huge strain on my family.
With this finally past us, we started on a path of healing, unfortunately, not for long. In October 2011, it came to light that my husband also had sexual abuse issues which nearly destroyed my family. About a year into this matter, my children were taken into foster care for their safety, even though my husband was not living with us. I can't even begin to describe the turmoil, emotions and strain this put on my children and myself.
After 2 years of a hard battle, in April 2015, my children finally came home! I was not about to give up! My stepdaughter was sent to live with her biological mother. My divorce was finalized in March 2015.
NOW, we are on a path of true recovery! I have bigger and better plans for a new life. We just need the financial help to make it happen!
I have purchased my property that I have been renting since 2008. The money was privately borrowed and needs to be paid back quickly. This is a 6.24 acre property that was once part of a 100 acre farm. I purchased it from, I believe, is the last of the 6 children, who is now 83.
My goal is to return this property back into a working farm. It will be a sustainable, self-sufficient, income-producing, earth-friendly, semi-commercial farm. It will also create local jobs too, for I will need help. I want to do traditional farming with trees/berries and animals as well as several aquaponic greenhouses. Aquaponics is the combination of growing plants without soil and fish farming.
There is also a 2.4 acre property down the road that I would like to purchase. It is owned by the same man that sold me my property. This is also part of the original 100 acres. I would like to build a produce market there and utilize the property for expansion. This would greatly positively impact our community.
In addition to the farm part, I would like to build a new home that would make room for several more children. I want to give adoptable siblings a forever home together. Typically, they get split up and don't see each other again.
With building a new home, I would need to move the mobile home that I currently live in to another property, either to sell it or rent it out for supplemental income.
I know this is quite a big dream. However, I believe we have a BIG God that can come through for me and my family, and future family, as He always has! Ephesians 3:20 (NLT) says, "Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think."
The greenhouse photo is a stock photo. This is similar to what I would like to do.
Thank you so much! May God richly bless you and your family for making a positive impact to mine!
