THE STORY:

We are seeking to raise money to supply 2 full scholarships for students from low income homes so that they can attend camp and experience the benefits of time spent outside.

Forestcraft Camp (www.forestcraftcamp.org) is seeking to raise money to provide 2 scholarships to benefit economically challenged inner-city youths to spend 3 weeks hiking, backpacking, and canoeing Adirondack State Park. In partnership with the non-profit group Discover Outdoors Foundation (www.discoveroutdoors.org), Forestcraft is working towards providing meaningful wilderness experiences for at-risk youth. This scholarship seeks to empower those who often feel forgotten and who rarely experience the life-changing experience that time in nature provides. Your donation is tax deductible thanks to Discover Outdoors Foundation operating as a fiscal sponsor.

Information about the camp:
Forestcraft Camp is a co-ed camp open to campers ages 13-17 who have an adventurous mindset and interest in the outdoors. The 3 week camp focuses on hiking and canoeing adventures within the Adirondack State Park where they spend one week hiking various peaks within the park, followed by a one week canoe trip, and ending with a one week backpack trip, with a few days downtime in-between trips at their base camp. Campers learn skills such as: canoeing, backpacking, camp set up and operation, cooking, fire building, and wood carving. Base camp is an ideal spot for resting between trips as we are situated on a beautiful bay within Upper Saranac Lake, and campers can enjoy swimming, fishing, volleyball, homemade meals, campfires as well as game and movie nights.

What makes Forestcraft Camp particularly unique is that it is a small family camp. The owner/directors and their families are involved in every aspect of the camp from leading the trips to cooking meals and playing games within camp. For this reason, each camper feels part of something special and unique. The program can accommodate as many as 10 participants for a 3-week canoeing/backpacking camp.
