I'm walking in honor of my grandmother, Florence Mixer. I loved her very much!!! Even when she didn't remember who I was, we still had fun singing songs and watching her favorite shows together! I just wish she could have been spared the disorientation and fear that come with Alzheimer's.
My grandmother was an exceptionally generous woman. She and her husband helped found the mission in our city, they always stopped for hitchhikers and helped them get to shelter, and they picked up addicts in the tenements and helped them get clean and sober. My grandmother kept in contact with many of the people she and her husband helped, and even after he passed away she continued to help people however she could. She donated to every charity that contacted her, even when she had barely any money left to give. Even when she could no longer remember anyone's name, she kept her positive and loving attitude. She LOVED to listen to the Gaither family sing on television, and on the day she died she was in her hospital bed clapping and singing joyfully. She was an extraordinary woman, and I miss her very, very much.
Let's find a cure together! Please sponsor me in the Wine Country Memory Walk!
