Founded in 1990 to relieve hunger and prevent nutritious food waste in metro Detroit, Forgotten Harvest rescues surplus, perishable food from over 800 sources and donates it to our 280 agency partners.
In 2008, Forgotten Harvest established a bulk food-repackaging program that enables us to handle tractor-trailer loads of surplus food, primarily produce. In order to distribute this healthy food to those in need in metro Detroit, we developed our volunteer program. Over the past four years, the volunteer program has experienced tremendous growth, from 6,100 volunteers in 2012 to over 17,000 volunteers in 2015.
Without our strong volunteer program, we would not be able to provide more than 41 million meals to those in need throughout metro Detroit. Our volunteers are integral to the success of Forgotten Harvest, supporting our volunteer program will ensure food will continue to reach those in need.
Please donate, set-up your own fundraising page to help keep our volunteer program in tip top shape! Remember: everyone can make a difference and each person's contribution is significant.
