For My Family
Organized by: john paluchniak
I am the father of two really great kids, one with autism and one that's bi-polar with anxiety disorder. My loving wife and friend of 20 years is suffering from chronic nerve and muscle pain from inoperable injuries and has been in pain management for 2 years ever since we exhausted ourselves and our money going to surgeons and specialists who couldn't help us. My 10 year old son has been in 5 schools in 5 years, being moved around due to his "issues" and the school systems inability to provide appropriate resources for him. My 19 year old daughter has been let go from multiple jobs due to her issues and can't get her driver’s license, once almost running us into a pole, due to panic attacks while trying to drive. The nerve damage and pain in my wife’s feet makes it painful for my wife to drive and she has to not take her medicine for a day and plan way ahead if she has to go anywhere important that I can't take her. My son has been kicked off 2 different buses and now I drive him to and from school every day because I can't afford private transportation to the school he's been moved to that's a half hour away from our home. I drive my daughter to and from her various jobs and anywhere else she needs to go. I sit with my wife through days of pain and sleeping and depression and end up taking way too much time off of work to the point where I'm starting to worry about my job. I am a disabled veteran with multiple disabilities of my own, and the only driver and steady source of income for my special needs family of 4. My wife has been turned down for Social Security based on her work history and doesn't qualify for any Federal or State aid due to my income being above poverty level. My son is not getting the attention or special intervention at home that he used to get and that he needs to get him ready for integration into mainstream school and life. I am trying to raise money to provide some much needed medical care for my wife in the form of mobility aids and spine treatments that my insurance won’t cover, and to be able to provide my son with the developmental items he needs at home to calm and focus him so we can get him on back on track and maybe even back on the bus. We have applied for all types of funding and aid both federal and state and gotten turned down because I’m trying to do the right thing and work and provide for my family but I’m reaching a turning point where I need to ask for help as things have gotten worse this year. They are switching my son to a different school, my wife just got diagnosed with diabetes on top of everything else and my daughter just lost her full time job. I just got assigned a new supervisor and he immediately changed my work hours to a mandatory 45hrs per week and one weekend a month at a salary of 40hrs with no overtime or compensation on an afternoon shift. We are at the point where we can barely make ends meet and I’m spreading myself way too thin and now I’ll barely see my family during the week except on days I end up calling off, that is until I get fired for it. I have been trying to get FMLA but getting it for taking care of someone else is turning into a red tape nightmare. Since we stayed here in the area after I got out of the military all our family is in Florida and Michigan and I’m alone in trying to hold everything together. If I could raise enough money to pay off the loans we have had to take out over the past 3 years I could free up enough to get the things we need. My dream would be to pay off all the loans and take a different job and move to Florida where my wife’s family would be able to help provide the support, care, and love that is severely needed to hold this family together for the long haul. Any help or support you can give is greatly needed and appreciated.
