Hello and welcome to my third annual Saving Pets Challenge! Once again I am supporting the rocking awesome Fort Collins Cat Rescue in Fort Collins, Colorado!
About three years ago, I was in dire staights. We had a huge overpopulation of cats and could not afford to get them fixed. Unable to find any local help, I contacted Best Friends Animal Society in Utah. The next year and half of my life was filled with spays, neuters, and transports. FCCR entered the picture because they are a Best Friends Network Partner. They took twelve of my cats and kittens through Best Friends, and then another fifty from me directly. Yes, FIFTY CATS - I wasn't joking when I said we had a huge overpopulation!
They saved a lot of lives when they said yes to my request. I am paying them back by doing fundraisers like this, and I am paying it forward by fostering cats and kittens for a local organization (shoutout to Kitties and Kanines!). Since last June, I have fostered 33 cats and kittens; since last October, twenty-seven of them have gone to Petsmart and/or been adopted! I currently have a mama cat, her litter of four, and one orphan kitten. That's baby Spirit and pretty little Overtime in the cover photo. The rest of the photos are some of my other fosters - I could not have helped any of them if FCCR had not helped me first!
I am often in awe at the way things work. Because of what I went through, I became aware of a problem I didn't really understand before. And because of what I went through, I have a goal, a mission, and a dream. I want to help expand resources in my area. They are already significantly better than they were when I needed help - but if a simple phone call had solved my problem back then, I would still be be-bopping through life wondering what I want to be when I grow up. I wouldn't be rescuing and fostering and saving lives. I wouldn't be dreaming of having my own cat sanctuary, filled with cats who have been deemed unadoptable. I wouldn't be looking forward to the day when I am transporting vanloads of cats to other states - maybe even to Fort Collins Cat Rescue!
I can't do everything I want to right now, but I can do something. I can foster and I can love. And today, I am working to raise awareness and raise money. If they win this challenge, it will mean $50,000 in the kitty for the kitties. Fort Collins Cat Rescue is an incredible place run by awesome people who care deeply about the cats they are saving. I hope you will help me help them!
