THE STORY:

I am grateful to once again support The Fortune Society by coaching and running with the charity's TCS New York City Marathon team.

The Fortune Society is a special social services and advocacy organization founded in 1967, whose mission is near and dear to my heart.  Fortune helps individuals reenter society post-incarceration and promotes alternatives to incarceration.  Through their work, Fortune seeks to strengthen the fabric of our communities.

On a personal note, I remain hopeful that Bill Kuenzel, the innocent client on Alabama's death row whom I've represented for over a dozen years, will be able to take full advantage of Fortune's services.  (gratuitous plug:  visit Alabama For Justice for updated case information.)  Without organizations like Fortune, people like Bill never will receive a meaningful second chance to turn their lives around.  America cannot and should not punish people for mistakes, and then continue punishing them when they re-enter society.  We must provide a viable path for the formerly incarcerated to take full advantage of a second chance.  Fortune makes good on what I hold to be the true promises inextricably weaved into the fabric of our constitution.

I cannot do this without you.  Please give generously, and know that every penny you contribute will be put to its highest use by the heroes who have spent the past 49 years building Fortune into the venerable New York City charity that it is today.

Know that I am supremely grateful for any and all support that you can provide!

With my love and gratitude,

David

About the Fortune Society:

The Fortune Society is a nonprofit social service and advocacy organization, founded in 1967.

Fortune works to create a world where all who are incarcerated or formerly incarcerated can become positive, contributing members of society. We do this through a holistic, one-stop model of service provision, based on a half century of experience working with people with criminal records. We’ve found that without a solid foundation in core skill areas, too many of these individuals resort to the self-destructive choices that result in crime and incarceration. Our continuum of care, informed and implemented by professionals with cultural backgrounds and life experiences similar to those of our clients, helps ensure their success.
