Foxxy's Road to Recovery
Organized by: Brooke Montalbano
On June 30th my best friend suffered severe injuries due to a barrel racing accident in Alvin. Her horse ran off at the second barrel causing her to lose her balance and both stirrups. She clung to the side of her saddle as her horse ran full speed into the ally way. She hit a metal pole and was seriously injured. Life flight flew her to Memorial Herman in downtown Houston, Texas, where she spent three and a half days in the Shock and Trauma Intensive Care Unit. She was blessed to have no brain or spinal cord injuries however she sustained major injuries including a sheared and shattered pelvis. She broke several ribs, fractured her scapula, broke three vertebra in her back along with several in her neck, had a collapsed lung and had a blood clot in her hip. She had loss of feeling in her right foot and could not flex it but the motion and feeling is returning. She moved out of the ICU Thursday, July 2nd. She spent another week at Memorial Herman downtown before being transferred to Memorial Herman Southeast for rehab. Thankfully she is now at home recovering. She is unable to walk for a few more weeks while they wait for her pelvis to heal. It has been and will be a long road to recovery however, Tara is a fighter. Throughout the whole thing she has maintained a positive and strong attitude. Her horse was sent back to its previous owners and she is already concerned about when she will be able to ride again. The problem is she must have a horse in order to get back on. I have started this fund raiser so that when she recovers she is able to buy herself a horse and once again compete. As much as I want to bless her with a new horse, I do not have $15,000. I believe that getting back on a horse is going to be a large part of her healing process both physically and mentally and I need your help to accomplishing this goal!
