EVENT: 2015 Boston Marathon
Hello Friends and Family!
I’m privileged to be running this year’s Boston Marathon–my first Boston and only my second marathon–as part of Team Framingham. I’m running to benefit the Framingham History Center, and hope you’ll help me reach my fundraising goal of $2,500 by making a pledge.
As a relative newcomer to Framingham, I’ve gained a great perspective on my new town through events at the History Center, most memorably, the house tours and the series on the Campanelli ranch; yes, I live in one and yes, I’m still trying to figure out how to update it! I’ve made some wonderful connections to other residents and professionals and am continually impressed by the enthusiasm of both participants and organizers.
What I appreciate most about the History Center is that it serves the whole community and the community as a whole. The Framingham History Center operates primarily through donations and memberships to provide all of us an opportunity to appreciate the foundations and growth of the Town. Undertakings range from restoration and preservation of historic properties and artifacts, to topical programming and exhibitions. Individually, we can indulge in or contribute to these efforts; collectively, we strengthen our community by strengthening our connection to it. I look forward to increasing my understanding and connections to Framingham through continued participation.
My history with running dates to what was then called ‘junior high’, when I started running for fun. In high school, during those early days of Title IX, I was one of the first girls to run cross-country at my school. I recall Coach yelling at me and my fellow female trailblazer, “You’re running like girls!” Yes. We. Were!
In the years since, running has been a part of my life, serving a range of purposes from keeping me whole to keeping me in shape; to satisfying occasional urges to compete to affirming that the journey matters as much as the destination. Though there have been sometimes too-long stretches when I haven’t run at all, ‘Runner’ will always be a part of my identity.
Whether you’re a resident of Framingham or not, I hope you’ll consider supporting me in this effort to help strengthen my community by raising funds for the Framingham History Center. Thank you for your support, both for Team Framingham and for the History Center!
