Frances' Insulin Pump
Organized by: Frances Aronhalt
Here's the thing. I am diabetic. I have something called LADA - Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults. This means I have a form of Type 1 diabetes which is an autoimmune disorder. I got dealt a bad pancreas and it doesn't have a return policy. So, I need to give my body insulin in order for it to function properly. This means injecting insulin into my thighs, love handles or belly four to six times a day. Good thing I have a little extra padding in those areas. Over time, though, scar tissue builds up and makes it difficult to find a spot that doesn't hurt and will absorb the insulin as it should. Scar tissue = no bueno absorption.
How can I solve this? An insulin pump would give me more options and an overall better quality of life. I would have one injection every three days and I'd be able to better control my blood glucose by giving more accurate doses of insulin.
Here's the thing, insulin pumps are EXPENSIVE. My insurance will cover 100% AFTER my deductible is met... and ain't nobody got that kind of money.
