A few weeks ago, I re-connected with an old friend (Larry) who studied abroad with me in Spain during college. Come to find out, he has dedicated his life to living as a Franciscan Friar, currently living in New York City. He just returned from living for several years in Central America, working with the poor and helping those in need. His name is now Brother Malachy.
Part of living as a Franciscan Friar includes taking a Vow of Poverty, essentially relying on others to provide for their needs. During our conversation, he informed me that they need several books at their Friary- St. Joseph Friary, 523 W. 142nd St. New York, NY 10031.
This fundraising effort is an attempt to raise money to buy and send those books to him. I have added up what is needed via Amazon- $322.04 and created a wishlist to see what needs to be bought.
The wishlist is here-
The Community of Franciscan Friars of the Renewal was begun in 1987 by eight Capuchin friars desiring to work more definitively for personal and communal reform within the Catholic Church.
