On August 1st & 2nd I’ll be riding my 9th Pan Mass Challenge as a member of the Boston Bruins Foundation Bike Team. The ride is a two day, 192 mile trek from Sturbridge to Provincetown to raise money for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s Jimmy Fund. Our Pedal Partner this year is 2 year old Cian Byrne who is suffering from pediatric liver cancer. Cian is an inspiration to all of us and a potent reminder that cancer can target anyone at any age.
In a fund raising environment where 80% efficiency is the norm, 100% of rider raised donations go straight to the Jimmy Fund for treatment and research. This is possible because riders pay entry fees and Corporate Sponsors underwrite all event costs.
The PMC is by far the most successful athletic fundraiser in the United States. Last year it raised $41,000,000 for the Jimmy Fund. This year’s goal is $45,000,000, which will bring the PMC’s 36 year fundraising total to a ½ billion dollars. Wow!
This will be the 10th Aniversary ride for the Boston Bruins Foundation Team. Thanks to everyone who has donated, ridden, volunteered and cheered us on over the years.
