I HOPE TO PLACE "THE ARTS" AS AN ALTERNATIVE. A man who is willing to work rarely dies of hunger where there are other men who wish to do nothing. The escapism of watching movies can also be the carreer-ism of creating movies. Part baby-sitter, part low-income entertainment, blacks watch more television than any other(as a race), which also gives them an "in" to the way of Hollywood movies. This can be paralleled with 'walking six miles to-and-from school' or 'sleeping with their basketball or football,' as the cliche' goes, in-as-far-as building 'muscle' at an early age and over the long-term for the task ahead. Art, like athletics, matures a person. And can save boys, men, girls, and women from neighborhood violence, low-wage jobs. Clockwork-robotic-useless eaters of whatever pap Madison Avenue is 'spinning'; be it a political dish or as consumers.
Information about the audience as well as the geographic area or community served.
Known by many names: 'crime-prone leeches;' 'gang-infested scum;' 'crack-plagued losers;' 'feral. The form of life for the majority of these kids grants their sole options: drug use, crime, and un-wed father-/motherhood, drug rehabilitation centers, subsidized housing, and poverty organizations.--Made into what they are by an inherently greedy country; worn down by the constant background static of racism in America until there is no choice but to become bitter.
Empty lots dot the streets, a stubborn reminder of the broken promises to rebuild the area after buildings were burned and razed in 1992. Residents complain of a lack of public transportation and healthy food, though they succeeded in shutting down some of the liquor stores. Strains lie mostly beneath the surface, typically bubbling up when someone gets angry about construction jobs taken by illegal immigrants who are willing to work for less than minimum wage.
A real estate developer and civil rights actiivist who held protests to shut down construction sites that did not employ blacks. "But if we can't get jobs and make money in our own neighborhood, where can we get them?"
Starting in the 1980s, many black families began moving to new developments far away from the urban core.
A few blocks north is the Second Baptist Church, the host of several NAACP conventions and speeches by the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X. Today, the church remains one of the most vibrant black congregations in the city, its early Sunday service broadcast on local radio. But few of the members live in the area anymore; immigrants make up roughly half the population in the neighborhood, blacks are around ten (10) percent. The church's preschool program, one of the first in the country created by federal money in the 1960 for low-income families, is almost entirely Latino.
These resources never reach the black people they are appropriated for. Instead being re-routed. That is why you never see these black neighborhoods getting better. Instead more and more, they are on the Eleven O’clock news.
It would be the ultimate discrimination if only white males had the right to be different, while blacks and women had to swear an oath of allegiance to "thinking black", "thinking feminist" or "thinking bourgeois."
