THE STORY:

WELCOME TO THE SHOES THAT FIT PROGRAM

Shoes That Fit is a non-profit children’s charity that began in 1992. Shoes That Fit is a grassroots all volunteer program where every clothing item purchased goes directly to a specific student at a specified school. Our program works exclusively through the schools. We help children in need by providing them with new shoes and socks so that they can attend school in comfort and dignity. What we are doing is helping to build the self esteem of children by making sure they have shoes and socks that fit. Imagine putting cardboard in the bottom of your shoes before heading off to school so that the hot pavement won’t burn your feet through the holes in the soles because it is so hot. Imagine not being able to walk, run, or play, because the child’s feet are in pain, because the shoes are too tight. Or staying far away from all the other kids because you are afraid your shoes will smell so bad, everyone will make fun of you. Since its inception in 1992, more than 950,000 children in need have received assistance from Shoes That Fit.
According to the 2002 U.S. Census, approximately 12 million children under the age of 18 live in poverty. In these families, even with government subsidies, there is barely enough money for basic items like food and rent, leaving no money for a child’s new shoes and clothing. The goal of Shoes That Fit is to provide these new items to help children in need fit in with their peers, so that the can concentrate on their studies rather than their circumstances.
We receive no government funding and rely entirely upon private donations from individuals, businesses and foundations. At Shoes That Fit, we are proud to have earned Charity Navigator’s highest rating of 4 stars, ensuring you that you are dealing with a reputable, strong and stable organization and accredited by the Better Business Bureau. WE ARE A 501(c) (3) CHARITABLE ORGANIZATION. THE FEDERAL ID # IS 95-4425565. ALL DONATIONS ARE TAX DEDUCTIBLE.
