BENEFITING: PINK FUND INC
ORGANIZER: Fred Astaire
EVENT: Dancing With Survivors
EVENT DATE: Oct 02, 2014
When I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012, it was surreal. At the time, I had never felt better. I was healthy and happy, and I had just completed a marathon. I couldn't be sick ... I felt great.
I worked through most of my chemo, but by the end I was pretty wasted. In order to recover, I took three months off from work, and then went back to work part-time. My husband and I have a beautiful eleven-year-old daughter. The loss of income definitely affected my family in a negative way, and we're still trying to get back on our feet.
My loss of income is one of the main reasons I am dancing at the Dancing With The Survivors℠ event. It's important to support The Pink Fund because a cancer diagnosis is devastating enough; facing financial concerns when you need to give 100% to fighting the cancer is not an additional stress I would want for anyone.
My family and friends were, and still are, an amazing support system. The kids, parents, and staff at Sonoran Sky Elementary where I work, were a great part of my recovery as well! And I have recovered! The photograph of me with my amazing daugher was taken before I was diagnosed. The one of me rock climbing is two years after my diagnosis and treatment. I feel so strong and thankful to be on the other side.
I am a breast cancer survivor!
