On the 50th Anniversary of the Freedom Rides and the 45th Anniversary of the signing of the Civil Rights Act, Harlem Dowling will take about 30 of our Foster Care Youth on trip to Memphis to see the Civil Rights Museum.
In order to participate in the event, our youth will write a 150 word essay titled: “How the Civil Rights Movement has Affected Living Today”.
So, besides both those anniversary's it is also HDWC's 175th. Begun in 1836 as the Colored Orphans Asylum, when orphanages would not accept black children, it is important that the current generation knows and understands that there were many before us that deserve our praise, our thank yous and our remembrance.
Check out the video of some our kids from our After-School program to know more about Harlem Dowling.
