Freeport, Grand Bahama was hit by hurricane Mathew October 6, 2016. There was extensive damage to structures throughout the Island and power was out to approximately 95% of the island. There is help on the Island now restoring power, but I am not clear on how much has been restored as of yet.Thank God no lives were lost. I have friends on the island that lost there roofs and all their belongings. This is a small attempt to give back to an Island that showed my husband and I much friendship as we lived there from August 2015 to July 2016. We were very lucky here in Ft Lauderdale that hurricane Mathew by passed us. But for our friends in Nassau, New Providence and Freeport,Grand Bahama had different scenarios. We take for granted the small things of our lives and often think we can not do anything to help others. Water, food and even the use of an ATM machine is near impossible for the people on Grand Bahama. It is almost two weeks since the storm and there is still so much to rebuild. The container port can not take all the ships they usually take and those ships are being rerouted to other ports. If you can reach out even in the smallest way I ensure you it will get to those in need. The money collected here will go to the individuals in need. The resorts and hotels have help from their corporate counter parts, individual people are dependent on private donations and help from churches and other charities. Please help. If your community has a project going to help the Islands please share .May God bless the blessings received in this fund raiser.
