BENEFITING: The Salvation Army
Over the past eight years that I have known QSKSw, (Josie) she has been nothing but kind to me and everyone around her. Even in the times we fought, we always found a way to make amends. She's done many things for me, and all of her friends, and I can think of no way to fully repay her.
She lives in Hinkley California. If you're not sure what significance this place holds, let me condense it for you.
(SOURCE: Wikipedia) (This) community is commonly associated with Pacific Gas & Electric since it was the location of a compressor station for PG&E's massive natural gas transmission pipelines. The natural gas has to be re-compressed approximately every 350 miles (560 km), and the station uses large cooling towers to cool the compressors. Between 1952 and 1966, the water used in these cooling towers contained hexavalent chromium to prevent rust in the machinery. Since the water was stored between uses in unlined ponds, it ultimately severely contaminated the groundwater in the town.
The result, is that most of the population of this small desert town are either dying of cancer, very sick, or otherwise defective from birth.
To top this off, she lives with the most intolerant family I have ever seen. Three years ago, she came to the realization that she was transgendered. As you can probably imagine, they did not approve and have made her life, (more) of a living hell than ever before.
I have tried to get her out of there, but I failed. I live in Canada and as we attempted to get the ball rolling, it became quickly apparent that immigration was not going to be easy. We eventually gave up. She has nowhere to stay outside of the hell that she currently lives in, and nobody to turn to aside from myself, and a few select Twitter friends.
So now, in desperation for her life, I have turned to this. A fund raiser. If even a thousand dollars is gained, it is a start. It's not much to move a person to a new home, but it is a start. Please, not for me, but for Josie, if you have anything, even a few dollars, please help me get her out of Hinkley.
There's not much more I can say here. if you wish to know more about this wonderful person, my dearest friend, here are the links to her twitter, and tumblr pages:
